Poetry, circa 1960s-1990s, undated
Scope and Contents
Poetry (Sub-Series 2.1) includes loose pages of drafts of poetry written by Whyatt. The bulk of these drafts were written in the early 1970s, with some individual poems dating as early as the 1960s and as late as the 1990s. Whyatt’s poetry was frequently submitted to literary magazines and journals, and the drafts of early submissions can be found in this sub-series along with drafts for poetry that was later published in collections such as American Gypsy or used in manuscripts for other poetry collections such as Lost Love. Other assorted poetry drafts can be found in Series I, when submitted to friends or editors as correspondence. Some poems include handwritten edits, and are bound in books with alternative names for future, potential collections. Whyatt seems to have exclusively used the name Frances Whyatt as the signature for her poetry works.
