Scope and Contents
This is an oral history interview with lawyer and law school professor Kate Mogulescu, conducted by Ana Sofia Harrison and Adam Johnson on August 7th, 2023. Kate speaks on her experience of growing up in New York City, how she got to be interested in Criminal Defense Law, and how she ended up in connection with the Coalition for Women Prisoners (CWP). She speaks broadly on the process of criminal defense and associated challenges, and where she sees the future of criminal defense in New York City as the numbers of incarcerated people in New York rise. She discusses her personal history with Tamar Kraft-Stolar and her work on legislation with Kraft-Stolar and Jaya Vasandani as a part of the CWP. She discusses the guidance she provided on DVSJA (the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act) and how it could be effectively and appropriately implemented.
