Historical Summary

The Barnard-Columbia Joint Committee on Cooperation was reestablished in 1969 by the Committees on Instruction of the two institutions after a dormancy of several years. The Committee was tasked with making recommendations to increase cooperation between the two colleges without reducing either’s autonomy. Proposals with recommendations were sent to the Committee on Instruction and discussed topics like partial coeducation, shared extracurricular and social activities, and joint housing. The Joint Committee on Cooperation was composed of administrators, professors, and students from both Barnard and Columbia College.
