Historical Summary
The Faculty Committee on the Deanship worked in tandem with the Trustee Committee on the Deanship to select a new dean for Barnard College. The Committee assessed candidates’ qualifications–reviewed candidate files, visited schools and colleges, conducted interviews, etc. A 1946 report narrowed a list of 50 candidates for deanship to five, of which “Mrs. Rustin McIntosh” was one, who took office in June 1947.
