Historical Summary

The Future of the College Committee, also called the Size of the College Committee, was appointed by Dean Millicent McIntosh in 1947, with the goal of measuring and evaluating the possible expansion of the College. Created in response of growing trends in Higher Education, the Committee--initially composed of Faculty and later becoming Faculty-Trustees--evaluated the extent to which the school could increase its student population, considering questions on Financial Aid, admissions standards, teaching space, among others. It ran through 1964.
