Scope and Contents
Subseries 1.2, The Farming of the Bones, includes notes, manuscripts, research photographs, annotated books used in research, and an annotated copy of the published novel. Published in 1998, The Farming of the Bones is Danticat’s second novel, a love story that takes place during the 1937 Parsley massacre of Haitian migrants living in the Dominican Republic. The novel engages with antihaitianismo (anti-Haitian discrimination) in the Dominican Republic.
