Biographical / Historical
The Men’s Committee, also known as the Men of Barnard (or, informally, the MOB) was established by President Spar in 2009. The group is comprised mainly of Barnard fathers and trustees who represent a wide swath of professional sectors. It has served as an advisory cabinet on a variety of topics, ranging from real estate to branding to fundraising to issues of student wellness. It has also been a vehicle for establishing deep and longstanding ties with donors. Originally it was cast as a membership group, with a required annual contribution of $50,000,but over time—and as most members made six- and seven-figure capital campaign gifts—this formal requirement lapsed. The group meets twice per year and is staffed by the Vice President for Development with administrative assistance from the President’s office. The Chief Operating Officer is generally also in attendance at meetings.
