Historical Summary

The Transition Committee was established in 2008 to support Barnard College through a period of significant leadership change, including the resignation of Associate Provost Flora Davidson and the presidential transition from Judith Shapiro to Debora Spar, the first such change in over four decades. Composed of faculty, administrators, trustees, students, and alumnae, the committee developed strategies for introducing the new president to campus and external audiences, coordinated efforts to celebrate outgoing leadership, and helped plan the reorganization of the Provost’s Office.
