Collection Scope and Content Summary

From the Collection:

This collection consists of Jenna Freedman's correspondence with zinesters, students, teachers, and fellow zine librarians. The correspondence spans 1999-present and is made up of personal letters, cards, postcards, flyers from zine distros, zines, pins, invoices from zine purchases, and thank you notes from students, teachers, interns and zinesters. Included within the correspondence are materials from Jenna Freedman's participation in #31 Postcards, an event sponsored by the South Side Letter Writing Club that encouraged participants to send 31 postcards during the month of October. Subjects range from business-like transactions like zine trades or purchases, invitations to zine fests to more personal subjects such as family, partners, and work.

Additional materials in this collection are materials from zine fests from 2004 to 2018, and materials related to the Zine Union Catalog. The zine fests include general events such as the Broolyn Zine Fest as well as more focused zine gatherings such as the NYC Feminist Zine Fest or the Women of Color Zine Symposium. Freedman also attended Zine Librarians (Un)Conferences (ZL(u)C), Pete's Mini Zine Fest, and a New South Conference. The collection also includes materials from Barnard Zine Library events hosted at Barnard College and presentations, for different conferences and events, given by Jenna Freedman as the Barnard Zine Librarian.
