Scope and Contents
Pages with writing and drawings by Ntozake depicting eras of Ntozake’s childhood from the perspective of a child, with locations identified by Paul T. Williams, Jr. (brother of Ntozake Shange) and noted on sticky notes. The intended use of or genesis of these pages as well as their date is unknown, although they likely date to before Ntozake's first stroke in 2004. Pages were removed from binder pages and any order was not retained. This folder contains pages depicting the Williams house in Trenton, NJ, as well as the house of Ntozake's paternal grandmother in Lakewood, NJ; and mentions of Alfred (Ntozake's mother's brother, who lived in New York City) and Uncle Jimmy (a play uncle).
