The collection contains materials that document the history of the Art History Department at Barnard College. Included in this collection are flyers for lectures and film events, invitations to fundraisers, documents about the history of the department, a memorial memo, course information, and exam questions. There is some material from the Fine Arts Department which became part of the Art History Department in 1960.

An invitation card, "The Nature of American Art: A Symposium...," was originally in the folder with materials from the Fine Arts Department. It was moved into the folder with all of the other Art History Department materials.
