Historical Background or Biography
Julie V. Marsteller, an alumna of Barnard, served as the college’s archivist before becoming Dean of Disabled Students in 1979. While she was still the college's archivist in the 1970s, as part of a larger Barnard oral history project, she conducted interviews of retiring faculty such as Richard Youtz, Raymond Saulnier, and Eleanor Rosenberg. She wanted to discuss “incidents and changes relating to Barnard that…are worthy of discussion.” She also interviewed people like Emma Stecher and Gladys Meyer, who were Barnard students and then professors at the College.
