Collection Scope and Content Summary

This collection contains meeting minutes and agendas, clippings, correspondence, programs, event fliers and publicity, reports, grant proposals, and other administrative materials from the Seven Colleges Career Services. Of particular interest are materials related to the organization of the Women in the 1970’s: Problems and Possibilities conference, and the Women and Work conference in 1980, co-organized with the Barnard Center for Research on Women, known at the time as the Barnard Women's Center.

Boxes 1 and 4 of this collection are restricted for 75 years from the date of creation, due to the personal nature of the materials.

Permission to publish material from the collection must be requested from the Barnard Archives and Special Collections. The Barnard Archives and Special Collections approves permission to publish that which it physically owns; the responsibility to secure copyright permission rests with the patron.

Historical Background

The Seven College Career Services program was a partnership between career services offices at each of the Seven Siblings colleges, historically known as the Seven Sisters colleges. The program intended to address the specific needs of alumnae of women's colleges, in particular those that had not entered the workforce immediately upon graduation. In addition to providng career counseling and resources, the Seven College Career Services planned panels, social activities, and conferences on topics concerning female workers.

This collection consists of materials from the Seven College Career Services program.

Collection Arrangement

The collection is arranged into two series, with the materials placed in chronological order. The series are as follows:

Series 1, Seven College Alumnae Survey materials, 1984 - 1987

This series contains survey responses and correspondence from the Seven College Alumnae Survey, which took place in 1984. Students who had graduated from the Seven Colleges from the years 1930 - 1980 were asked to participate in the survey. The survey was intended to garner personal reflections on issues related to employment and gender. The results were intended as resource material for the Seven College Career Services staff. Materials in this series are restricted for 75 years from creation.

Series 2, Administrative Materials, 1969 - 1984

This series contains administrative materials from the Seven Colleges Career Services program.
