Historical Background
The United States National Student Association, 1947 - 1978, was a confederation of college and university student goverments. The purpose of the National Student Association was to create a network of strong student leaders, who would share ideas in person at annual meetings. It was revealed in 1967, through an article in the leftist publication Ramparts Magazine, that the National Student Association had been funded by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) as part of larger governmental anti-Communist efforts.
