Faculty Budget and Planning Committee (FBPC)

The Faculty Budget and Planning Committee (FBPC), which might have been formerly called the Faculty Planning Committee (FPC), advises the President and the Provost of staffing in academic departments, divisions, and programs to work collaboratively with the President’s council during budget discussions (Barnard Faculty Committees Website 4/01/2024). The Faculty Planning Committee (FPC), which might be a previous name of the FBPC), was formed in 1976. This ad-hoc committee formation was supported by the Faculty Executive Committee and formed because of the Barnard Trustee mandate to lower Barnard’s budget (Barnard Bulletin February 24, 1976). The main role was to fulfill the mandate to cut five to ten percent of the approximately 140 full time faculty. Additionally, FPC worked closely with the administration to increase funding, increase enrollment, and assess academic priorities (Barnard Bulletin February 24, 1976). Its priorities shifted from just responding to budget cuts, to the allocation of positions within departments, the size of departments, and the restructuring and allocation of academic departments themselves (Barnard Bulletin September 19, 1984).
