Historical Summary

In 1972, the Barnard chapter of the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) proposed to President Martha Peterson that a Faculty Finance Committee be formed to voice faculty interests in the budget process. The impetus for this committee came from a rising dissatisfaction in faculty salary increases and the overall budgetary process (see Barnard Bulletin March 9, 1972). The Faculty Finance and Resource Committee (FFRC), which the archivist asserts may be the current name or iteration of this committee, articulates and defends the Faculty’s interests in the budgetary process and participates in discussions with the administration on salary scales, fringe benefits, other forms of remuneration, and working conditions (Barnard Faculty Committees Website 4/1/2024).
