Historical Summary
Research with lab manuals can track the pedagogical changes in labratory education over many decades. In the early 2000s, Barnard College modernized its approach to labratory education. The shift is marked with a radically different lab manual and the hiring of a laboratory director to specialize in labratory classses instead of rotating execlusively between professors.
Originally, classes labelled within the 1000s were general introductory courses whicch both non-majors and majors took. Over time, this general introductory course was split into majors, 2000s level courses, and 1000s became the non-major introductory course.
