Series Scope and Content Summary

This series contains video recordings on a variety of formats, including VHS, DVD, and MiniDV tape. The contents include recordings of campus events; visits, lectures, and panels featuring prominent visitors; documentaries and television programs that mention Barnard or utilize materials from the Barnard Archives; and course-related recordings. Of special interest are recordings of lectures and panels featuring June Jordan, Alice Walker, Ntozake Shange, Marian Wright Edelman, Betty Friedan, Elie Wiesel, Laurie Anderson, Joan Didion, and Ed Koch. Also of interest are recordings of significant campus events such as the BOSS Celebration of Black Womanhood, commencements, and inaugurations. Cartons 13-15 are comprised of video clips recorded from television shows that mention or feature Barnard or Barnard-affiliated people and were likely compiled by the Office of Public Relations/Communications.

Series Arrangement

The recordings in this series are partially arranged according to assigned ID numbers (which are roughly chronological) and partially arranged in order as received. Boxes 5-12 conform to a legacy item-level inventory compiled by the Archives. Boxes 13-15 are arranged in roughly chronological order and conform to a legacy item-level inventory. Boxes 16-17 conform to a print item-level inventory included in box 16. Boxes 20-21 correspond to item-level inventories included in accession records. Box 23 conforms to a legacy item-level inventory. All inventories are available in the Archives or by contacting archives@barnard.edu.
