Papers of Judith Leverone Christopher '53, including letters from her time at Barnard, essays and coursework from Barnard, original scripts, writing, and photographs.

The collection contains letters from Leverone to her family during her time at Barnard, describing theatre and opera performances in New York City and her experiences at Barnard, as well as letters to and from family and friends during her travels in Europe and time after Barnard through the early 1960s; 50th reunion materials from 2003; essays and writings from her time at Barnard and after; 1953 graduation materials including slides; datebooks, journals, and other personal reflections from her time at Barnard and shortly after; records of her academics (including essays, class notes, grades, and plays submitted in fulfillment of the English major), theatrical productions, and other extracurricular activities at Barnard; newspaper clippings mentioning Leverone during her time at Barnard; the script, program, photographs, and coverage of her original play "Ye Gods," produced at Barnard in 1952; materials related to the off-Broadway production of Jorge Goldenberg's "Knepp" with translation by Leverone; personal photographs; and two unproduced scripts and related correspondence (television script titled "Pino and the Bell" and opera libretto "Freya").

Biography

Judith Leverone was born in Boston on May, 15 1931, attended the Girls Latin School, and graduated from Barnard in 1953 with an English major. She was active in theater at Barnard, and upon graduation entered the New York City scene, eventually working as a theatrical agent, personal manager, and playwright. Among her productions were a trnslation of Knepp by Jorge Goldenberg, which was produced off-Broadway. She married actor Thom Christopher in 1971. Leverone passed on September 24, 2019.
